Daily Open-Close Checklist for Cafes and Restaurants
In cafes and restaurants, the day starts with an opening checklist and ends with closing. Paper forms get lost, WhatsApp messages aren't archived, and shift handover stays verbal. This guide walks you through standardizing daily open/close Okidos with Okido.
Why separate opening and closing lists?
Opening lists cover equipment checks, hygiene, prep, and pre-service safety. Closing lists cover cleaning, till close, cold-chain logs, and notes for the next day.
One generic list mixes both contexts. Separate task lists and Okido schedules give clear ownership.
Limits of paper and Excel
Paper is fast on the floor but doesn't archive well and weakens audit evidence. Excel looks tidy but isn't updated on site.
A WhatsApp "opening done" shares info but not which items were skipped. Okido records every item.
Daily flow with Okido: step by step
- Create task lists: separate templates for opening and closing.
- Schedule Okidos: daily or per-shift recurrence.
- At shift start: team opens Okido on mobile and completes items.
- Add photos: proof for critical items (fridge temp, cleaning).
- Send for approval: completed Okido can go to manager approval.
- Overdue Okidos: incomplete work shows red on the panel.
Shift handover and team communication
Notes from the closing Okido carry to the next shift. Use announcements for urgent changes — Okido as the official channel instead of scattered message groups.
